DOUGLAS K. PETERSON, PhD
Portfolio &
Home Page
I earned my PhD in the Interdisciplinary Areas of Management from the University of Nebraska (1997), and served in a Fulbright-Hays sponsored exchange in Malaysia where I worked with faculty in an entrepreneurship development center for native Malaysians, helping them develop a more complete understanding of the US concept for franchising both from the franchisor and franchisee perspectives.

Since then, I've dedicated large parts of my career to the areas of international business, strategy, decision making, sustainability, social responsibility, and governance. In terms of teaching, I am primarily involved with international management and strategy. In terms of consulting, I specialize with the non-governmental organization of all sizes where my particular interests are in expat training, business strategy and decision making, global business, strategic alliances, international employee motivation, social responsibility, and ethics. I am currently developing original research and training materials in the areas of SME internationalization, governance, globally sustainable business, job attitudes in emerging economies and the impacts of social media on uncertainty and chaos in decision making.

I currently live in Salt Lake City, Utah and teach at Westminster College as an Associate Professor. Westminster College is one of the top private Master's Comprehensive Liberal Arts schools in the Western United States. Before arriving in SLC,  I taught at Texas Tech University, the University of New Mexico, the International School of Management in Paris and the International University Concordia/Audentes, in Tallinn, Estonia. I also served as the Director of the New Jersey International Business Alliance, which provided global outreach services to small and medium sized enterprises in New Jersey. My primary teaching and training at Westminster College are in international management, global perspectives for MBA, and strategic management at the undergraduate and MBA levels.

I’ve published in The Journal of Asia Business Studies, The Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies, The Journal of Management Research, International Business Research, International Journal of Business and Management, The Interdisciplinary Journal of Contemporary Research in Business, The Global Journal of Management and Business Research, and the Carnegie-Bosch Series in Global Controversies in Corporate Social Responsibility. I am the founder of Business Without Borders: The NGO Institute, Incorporated, which seeks to be for the business community what Medecines Sans Frontieres is for global health. The Institute is still nascient.
